Merve Gultekinoglu Bayram

Dr. Gültekinoğlu Bayram leads a research group focused on the molecular engineering of functional biomaterials. Her research interests lie in understanding the fundamental interactions between synthetic materials and biological systems. By leveraging tools from polymer chemistry and surface science, her team develops novel platforms for tissue engineering and targeted therapeutics. Dr. Merve Gültekinoğlu Bayram is a Principal Investigator at Hacettepe University, where she directs the MBG Lab. Her research stands at the convergence of macromolecular chemistry, nanotechnology, and regenerative medicine, with a primary focus on designing “smart” biomaterials that can instruct cellular behavior.

She received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Hacettepe University in 2019. Driven by a translational mindset, Dr. Gültekinoğlu Bayram’s work aims to bridge the gap between bench-top chemistry and clinical bedside applications. Her group specifically targets the development of stimuli-responsive hydrogels, bio-fabricated nanomaterials, and next-generation drug delivery systems.

Throughout her career, she has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals such as Biotechnology Advances, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces and Acta Biomaterialia, 1 book and 3 book chapters. Her scientific contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Hacettepe University Incentive Award in Medical Sciences.

Dr. Gültekinoğlu Bayram is also deeply committed to mentorship and education, supervising a multidisciplinary team of graduate students and researchers. She currently serves as Early Career Researcher (ECR) Editorial Board for the Wiley Polymer Portfolio.
